De/anti-icing fluids and equipment

Kilfrost is the global market leader in the supply of de/anti-icing products to the aviation industry.

For the past 75 years Kilfrost has pioneered de-icing technology. Its world-renowned Research & Development specialists continue to enhance today's fluids, using on-site wind tunnels, cold chambers and their technical expertise to test, evaluate and manufacture new products. Research today concentrates on development of fluids that meet, and exceed, the ever increasing environmental demands of our customers and more importantly the world's water authorities.

All Kilfrost aircraft de/anti-icing fluids are based on monopropylene glycol which is non-toxic and fully biodegradable. The Kilfrost laboratory with its cold chamber, water spray endurance test (WSET) and aerodynamic chamber has established the parameters for many of the industry's testing procedures. All fluids are delivered with Certificates of Conformity and Certificates of Analysis to prove the quality.

Type I

A de-icing fluid manufactured and qualified to AMS 1424 / ISO 11075 specifications

Type I fluids are primarily used for de-icing and do not offer any significant anti-icing holdover protection. Because of this Type I fluids are commonly used as part of a 2 step de-icing / anti-icing procedure when the final application of a Type II or Type IV fluid provides the required extra protection.

We offer 2 different Type I fluid options.

  1. DF Plus

  2. DFsustain

Type II

A de-icing / anti-icing fluid manufactured and qualified to AMS 1428 / ISO 11078 specifications

Type II fluids can be used for de-icing purposes but (unlike Type I fluids) also offer extended anti-icing holdover protection and can be used in a variety of ways:

  • Unheated and undiluted (or diluted) for anti-icing

  • Heated and undiluted for de-icing / anti-icing as a one step process

  • Diluted with water and heated for de-icing / anti-icing as a one step process

  • Diluted with water and heated as the de-icing stage in a 2 step process, when used with the unheated and undiluted fluid as step 2

We offer 2 different Type II fluid options:

  1. ABC-3

  2. ABC 2000

Type IV

A de-icing / anti-icing fluid manufactured and qualified to AMS 1428 / ISO 11078 specifications

Type IV fluids offer maximum anti-icing holdover protection, but can also be used for de-icing purposes. Similar to Type II fluids, Type IV fluids can be used in a variety of ways:

  • Unheated and undiluted (or diluted) for anti-icing

  • Heated and undiluted for de-icing / anti-icing as a one step process

  • Diluted with water and heated for de-icing / anti-icing as a one step process

  • Diluted with water and heated as the de-icing stage in a 2 step process, when used with the unheated and undiluted fluid as step 2

We offer 2 different Type IV fluid options:

  1. ABC-S

  2. ABC-S Plus

Other products:

Runway

A de-icing / anti-icing fluid manufactured and qualified to AMS 1435 specifications for use on aircraft runway/taxiway surfaces. This is a potassium formate based runway fluid that is applied in cold concentrate form. This is the most environmentally friendly runway fluid.

Kilfrost Flightline

An effective fluid for cleaning baked-on deposits off the heating elements and tanks of de-icing vehicles at the end of the season.

Upon your request, we would be glad to provide technical specifications for any Kilfrost product you might be interested.

Kronsten Aviation can also supply certified tanks, pumps and hoses suitable for use with Kilfrost fluids.

As well as this we can offer advice on purchasing the most appropriate de-icing machines for you.

We can arrange training sessions on handling, storage and application of the fluid with the manufacturer.

We can also arrange practical training courses at Heathrow airport which will give you an invaluable “hands on” experience.
